Third-party software

Vimba’s transport layers (GenTL producers) are based on GenICam and therefore can be used with any third-party software that includes a GenTL consumer.

To use Vimba with GenICam-compliant third-party software:

  1. Install at least Vimba’s transport layers. We recommend you to install Vimba Viewer additionally.

  2. Follow the instructions of the third-party software on how to use cameras via the camera vendor’s transport layer.

Tip

  • Before starting the third-party software, make sure no other application uses the camera.

  • Before first use, follow the instructions of the camera user guide or technical manual.

  • Camera recognition may take a while, especially with GigE cameras.

  • If your camera does not reach the maximum frame rate, check if the exposure time is short enough. Example: If the exposure time is 100 ms, the camera cannot acquire more than approximately 10 fps.

  • If you have issues with the third-party software, check the camera functionality with Vimba Viewer.
